Emergency Medical 服务 (EMS)

Western is an approved training center for basic and advanced life support. We offer courses for the lay rescuer as well as health care providers.

Our full range of EMS refresher classes meet state and national registry continuing education requirements. We also offer a wide variety of EMS professional development courses to expand and renew the skill and knowledge base of EMS providers. Our American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center provides a full array of AHA courses including CPR, 急救, 和acl.

Our experienced instructors will cover 病人评估, signs and symptoms of illness and injury, and immediate care through a combination of classroom presentations and hands-on clinical experiences.

Emergency Medical Technician Course Options

The Emergency Medical Technician course is offered in a variety of ways:

  • Emergency Medical Technician - Basic 技术文凭: Take the full course in one term—180 hours—and earn a technical diploma upon successful completion. Find more information on this course on the 急救-基础 page. Current program admission requirements are listed under the Admission Requirements tab.
  • Emergency Medical Responder to Emergency Medical Technician Part 1: This course provides foundational knowledge for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) candidates and all requirements for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) candidates. Topics include basic anatomy and 生理学, 病人评估, traumatic injury management, 气道管理, 心脏管理, 基本医疗保障. Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to participate in the National Registry of EMT's Emergency Medical Responder exams required for the Wisconsin EMR certification. There are no pre-requisites to this course, and you can continue on to EMT Part 2 if you wish.   
  • Emergency Medical Technician Part 2: This course will further build upon the base knowledge of the EMR and EMT Part 1 course. Topics include expanded anatomy, 生理学, 和病理生理学, 疾病过程, more complex 病人评估, and critical thinking skills. Additional skills will be covered as allowed by the Wisconsin Department of Health 服务 EMS Section Scope of Practice for EMTs. Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to participate in the National Registry of EMT’s exam required for Wisconsin EMT licensure. Pre-requisites for this course are completion of an EMR stand-alone course, 或EMR到EMT Part 1, at Western Technical College, and a current Wisconsin license as an Emergency Medical Responder.
  • Registered Nurse to Emergency Medical Technician: Completion of this course will allow a Registered Nurse to sit for the National Registry of EMT’s Basic exam. Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible to participate in the National Registry of EMT’s exam required for Wisconsin EMT licensure. Pre-requisite for this course is a current Wisconsin Registered Nurse license.
